El mes de septiembre es perfecto para hacer una escapada a Cáceres, y es que el clima ya no es tan cálido y la ciudad merece ser disfrutada con tranquilidad, sin las prisas que nos da el calor del verano. Nosotros teníamos muchas ganas de conocer esta ciudad, habíamos leído sobre ella pero superó nuestras expectativas. A veces viajamos lejos buscando conocer lugares para hacer turismo cultural, sin saber lo que tenemos a unos kilómetros en nuestro propio país, y es que Cáceres es nada más y nada menos que el Tercer Conjunto Monumental de Europa, solo por detrás del de Praga, que ya conocemos y nos fascinó, y el de Tallin. Además fue declarada Ciudad Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO en 1986.
Así que ya puedes ir haciéndote una idea de que Cáceres no es poca cosa, sino todo lo contrario, perderse en sus calles significa retroceder en el tiempo, y además hay que recorrerlas tanto de día como de noche, porque su casco antiguo cambia completamente. Nosotros tuvimos la suerte de poder visitarlo casi a solas, y es que después de comer no había casi nadie por el casco antiguo y la verdad es que la experiencia es única. Nos recordó bastante a la sensación de recorrer las calles de Venecia en 2020, ya que viajamos en plena pandemia y pudimos disfrutar de una ciudad histórica casi vacía. Otra de las razones para visitar Cáceres es Juego de Tronos y La Casa del Dragón, y es que utilizaron escenarios tanto de Cáceres como de Trujillo, otro pueblo de la provincia, para rodar. Así que si eres fan como nosotros, lo disfrutarás aún más.

Viernes: Viaje a Cáceres en coche
El viernes después de trabajar y hacer las maletas partimos en coche hacia Cáceres, desde Ciudad Real tardamos alrededor de 4 horas en llegar a nuestro destino.
Llegamos a nuestro hotel en Cáceres
Nos alojamos en el Hotel Barceló V Centenario, uno de los hoteles más espectaculares de Cáceres, que tuvimos la suerte de poder conocer gracias a QueHoteles.com.
El hotel es de la cadena Barceló, lo que garantiza descanso y calidad sin igual. Este en concreto es de 4 estrellas y nos gustó mucho, está algo retirado por lo que es super tranquilo y además solo tardas unos 7 minutos en llegar al centro de la ciudad en coche. Nosotros nos desplazamos hacia el centro en coche varias veces al día y pudimos aparcar a unos metros del centro andando, sin necesidad de pagar parking, algo que se agradece. A lo largo del post podéis ver fotos de la habitación y del desayuno buffet, que es un auténtico 10, la verdad es que la comida en los hoteles Barceló nunca defrauda, es una de las razones por las que solemos elegir esta cadena hotelera.
Hora de cenar en el centro de Cáceres
Hambrientos decidimos acercarnos al centro de Cáceres para cenar, ya teníamos claros algunos sitios en los que comer bien, gracias a las recomendaciones de un lugareño, así que sabíamos que no íbamos a fallar. Os contaremos más sobre dónde comer en Cáceres y nuestra experiencia en otro post, pero lo que si os adelantamos es que Tapería Minerva es un imprescindible en la ciudad. Cenamos productos típicos de la tierra, como la Torta del Casar, uno de los mejores quesos de España e incluso del mundo, nos aventuraríamos a afirmar. Después de cenar dimos un paseo por la plaza y nos fuimos a descansar, para prepararnos para el día siguiente.

El sábado después de desayunar en nuestro hotel partimos hacia el centro, para iniciar nuestro recorrido por la ciudad de Cáceres.
Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Helga de Alvear
Nuestra primera parada fue el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Helga de Alvear. Nosotros somos fans del arte y el contemporáneo siempre te sorprende. Algunos no lo entienden y no lo ven como arte, pero te animamos a verlo como una experiencia, en muchas ocasiones las obras son performances en toda regla en las que los artistas te hacen partícipe, y esto ocurre en este museo, ya que hay salas muy sorprendentes. No vamos a hacerte spoilers, pero te mostraremos algún vídeo, lo demás tienes que verlo tú, pero solo te decimos una cosa: prepárate, ¡las últimas salas son las más shockeantes! A las 12.00 teníamos reservado un free tour por Cáceres para conocer todos los detalles de esta ciudad tan especial. Nuestro guía fue una maravilla y nos lo explicó todo de forma muy amena, a lo largo de la hora y media que duró el tour. Comenzó en la Plaza Mayor y continuamos cruzando el Arco de la Estrella, construido por Manuel de Larra Churriguera en el siglo XVIII, con el fin de que uno de los dueños de uno de los palacios de la ciudad, pudiera pasar con su carruaje y evitar dar un rodeo. Este arco hizo que los aposentos del obispo, que vivía justo detrás, quedaran más a la vista de todos, y además el continuo paso de carruajes le molestaba, por lo que se dice que llegó a excomulgar tanto al noble como a Churriguera. ¡Curioso cuanto menos!
Este tipo de historias nos encantan y por eso siempre nos gusta hacer un tour. Conocer más sobre la historia de los lugares que visitamos es imprescindible para ponernos en situación y entender mejor el porqué de las cosas.

Te lo recomendamos porque recorres las tres zonas en las que se divide el conjunto monumental de Cáceres y vas parando en todas las zonas monumentales importantes, para recibir la explicación sobre ellas. Como el Arco de la Estrella, la Concatedral, el Palacio episcopal, la Iglesia de San Francisco Javier, el Palacio de los Golfines y mucho más.
Después, comimos en el Restaurante Jardín de los Golfines, en el mismo casco histórico, y la verdad es que todo súper rico. Os recomendamos las croquetas de patatera, ¡exquisitas! Siendo sinceros, en ningún sitio de Cáceres comimos mal, el producto extremeño es buenísimo. Eso sí, pensad que en el casco monumental hay pocos restaurantes, y uno de ellos es muy famoso, Atrio, con dos estrellas Michelin, así que es posible que se te vaya de presupuesto. En cambio, en este restaurante que te comentamos puedes comer a buen precio.
Como os hemos comentado, después pudimos dar un paseo súper tranquilo por el casco antiguo ya que había muy poca gente. Tras el paseo fuimos al hotel a descansar un rato y más tarde partimos hacia Los Barruecos.
Rumbo a Los Barruecos, escenario de Juego de Tronos
Además de grabar Juego de Tronos en el casco monumental de Cáceres o Trujillo, una de las batallas se rodó en Los Barruecos, un paraje natural de la provincia. Está a una media hora de Cáceres y merece la pena. Eso sí, no te pases la salida y es que hay una señal en la que pone “Escenarios Juego de Tronos” justo a la entrada, así que ve despacito y no te la pasarás. Después tendrás que recorrer un tramo por un camino hasta llegar a la zona, en la que verás diferentes carteles informativos justo frente a los escenarios que salen en la serie de HBO. Si te gusta la serie lo disfrutarás, sin duda.
La Noche del Patrimonio en Cáceres
Sin saberlo nuestra escapada coincidió con La Noche del Patrimonio, una noche en la que los principales monumentos y museos de la ciudad son gratis; e incluso puedes visitar espacios que normalmente no están abiertos al público, como el despacho del alcalde, por ejemplo. Además, había actuaciones musicales, baile y mucho más en determinadas zonas del casco antiguo. Este año coincidía con el estreno de la nueva iluminación de Cáceres, así que pudimos verla en primicia.
La verdad es que había mucho ambiente, tomamos algo en la plaza, cenamos y repetimos en Tapería Minerva y degustamos rico jamón extremeño. ¡Se nos hace la boca agua al recordarlo!
Después de cenar, recorrimos de noche el casco antiguo, una experiencia totalmente diferente y muy recomendable. Y es que Cáceres bien merece un fin de semana, o incluso más, si quieres disfrutarla bien y aprovechar para conocer todo lo que tiene qué ofrecer.
Domingo: vuelta a casa, pero antes… Trujillo
El domingo tocaba volver a casa pero antes quisimos hacer una parada en Trujillo, considerado uno de los pueblos más espectaculares de España, y es que su plaza impacta bastante. En mitad de la plaza verás a un señor a caballo, que es, nada más y nada menos, que el famoso explorador Francisco Pizarro, nacido en Trujillo y dirigente de la conquista del Imperio Inca.
Además de la plaza hay otros puntos de interés que ver en el pueblo, como el Castillo de Trujillo, también escenario de Juego de Tronos. En él estuvieron Lord Bronn del Aguasnegras y el mismísimo Jaime Lannister en la séptima temporada, aunque el resto de enclaves a visitar los detallaremos más adelante en otro artículo.
