El Monasterio de Bachkovo es el segundo monasterio ortodoxo más grande e importante de Bulgaria. Se encuentra situado en la ribera del río Chepelare en las montañas Ródope. Concretamente, el monasterio está a unos 189 km de Sofía, la capital, y a unos 10 km al sur de Asenovgrad.
En 1984, el monasterio fue inscrito en la Lista Indicativa de Bulgaria para ser considerado Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO y es uno de los sitios más turísticos a nivel nacional.
Inicialmente, fue fundado con el objetivo de servir como seminario para la juventud en el monasterio, aunque posteriormente, tuvo que sobrevivir a varios cambios políticos, oleadas de invasión, saqueos e incluso a la destrucción de parte del monasterio.
Debido al deterioro que comentábamos, actualmente el único edificio original es el osario, que está fuera del complejo del monasterio. Su diseño se basa en una construcción en forma de rectángulo compuesta por dos patios interiores llenos de arboles y vegetación, donde en el centro de cada patio podrás encontrar una iglesia.
Nuestra recomendación, es que dediques tu visita a observar cada detalle del monasterio, ya que desde el inicio podrás observar frescos, pinturas e iconos religiosos y para finalizar, te recomendamos visitar el osario.

La entrada al Monasterio de Bachkovo es gratuita, pero para entrar al refectorio deberás pagar $4 USD.
Además si deseas visitar el museo tendrás que pagar una entrada equivalente a $2 USD.

Cómo llegar al Monasterio de Bachkovo
Desde la ciudad de Sofia, tardarás unas 2 horas en llegar hasta el Monasterio, por lo que te recomendamos tomar un taxi o un servicio de transporte que te lleve hasta la zona.
Si decides alquilar un coche, deberás tomar la A1/E80 desde la ciudad de Sofía. Depués de 1 hora de recorrido, te recomendamos prestar atención a las salidas señalizadas, ya que deberás tomar la salida hacia Plovdiv para continuar por la carretera Goliamkonar, que te llevará a Plovdiv, desde donde tendrás que seguir por la 86 hasta llegar a la entrada del Monasterio.
Si prefieres usar el transporte público, te recomendamos ir a la estación de autobuses Rodopi, para que puedas tomar la ruta Plovdiv – Smolyan. En Bachkovo deberás bajarte en la segunda parada, desde donde podrás ver la ruta hacia el Monasterio.
