Posterior a esto, deberás tomar la 1ª salida en la rotonda, continuando por la CA-9 hasta llegar al Blvrd Liberación/Pan-American Highway/CA-1 y después de 13 km toma la salida hacia Antigua, para que puedas continuar por la RN-10.

A partir de allí, debes conducir hacia la Alameda Sta Rosa durante 12 minutos aproximadamente, ya que transcurrido ese tiempo, habrás llegado a tu destino.

Historia de la Iglesia de la Merced de Guatemala

Fue construida entre los años 1782 y 1784 como templo provisional, pero en 1802 Joaquín Vázquez presentó los planos para su construcción definitiva, por lo que como tal, fue inaugurada en 1813.

Dentro de la iglesia podrás observar un conjunto de imágenes y esculturas que provocan alta devoción en sus feligreses, tales como la virgen de La Merced, la virgen de Concepción, el Jesús de Nazareno y la escultura de San Pedro Nolasco. Su arquitectura neoclásica es digna de admirar, donde debemos destacar que el frente de la iglesia se encuentra tallado en piedra, mostrando un frontón semicircular y un relieve del bautismo de cristo el cual es propio del estilo de la época. Desde el exterior de la Iglesia, también se puede observar la cúpula rojiza que tanto la representa, de la cual surge la figura de un león que caracteriza a la orden de los mercedarios.

En su interior, podrás observar la nave de la epístola, la cual posee un diseño ornamental que enmarca el cuadro de San Judas Tadeo, atribuido a José de Valladares, quien es un pintor de renombre dentro del país. Por otro lado, en la nave del evangelio, se encuentra ubicado el retablo de la virgen de Dolores, el de la virgen de Guadalupe y el del Cristo de la Agonía, por lo que merece la pena que le dediques unos minutos de tu visita.
